Inspiration - Marcia DeCoster

Hooray, I'm back! - sort of. Quite elated that I was able to get this post together on our dusted-off Pc-dinosour from the year Tut (actually 2002 ;o) ), and it took only 4 hours in total!!!

Jokes aside, I am a great fan of Marcia DeCoster's beadwork, ever since I saw her book "Beaded Opulence". See also the link in the side panel (Inspirations). One of her quirky "floral" rings I liked very much and tried to recreate it from a picture posted on her blog. After that, there was no stopping... the ring needed matching earrings, and then of course there had to be a pendant/necklace. All pieces are mostly worked using Herringbone Stitch and Peyote Stitch. Materials used: Delicas, 11/0, 15/0 & 8/0 in galvanized silver and variations of purple, crystals in colour tanzanite AB, glass pearls in metallic purple, rivoli in amethyst. (Please excuse the bad photo quality, but I find the crystal colour tanzanite notoriously difficult to photograph. :o( )

Hurrah, ich bin zurueck! - mehr oder weniger. Bin stolz darauf, dass ich es geschafft habe, diesen Eintrag mittels unseres abgestaubten Pc-dinosauriers aus dem Jahre Schnee (eigentlich 2002 ;o) ) zusammenzustellen, und es hat nur 4 Stunden gedauert!!!

Scherz beiseite, ich bin schon seit einiger Zeit ein grosser Fan von Marcia DeCoster, seit mir ihr Buch "Beaded Opulence" in die Haende fiel. Im Seitenpanel "Inspiritations" findet ihr einen Link zu ihrem Blog Mad Designs. Einer ihrer eher skurrilen, floralen Ringe hatte es mir besonders angetan, und so habe ich versucht, ihn von einem Foto nachzuarbeiten. Nach dem Ring gab es fuer mich kein Halten mehr. Da mussten natuerlich passende Ohrringe her, und danach natuerlich ein Anhaenger/Halskette... Alle Schmuckstuecke sind ueberwiegend in Ndebele und Peyote Stich gearbeitet. Verwendete Materialien: Delicas, 11/0, 15/0 & 8/0 in galvanisiertem silber und Lila-Variationen, Kristalle in tanzanite AB, Glasswachsperlen in metallisch-lila und der Rivoli im Anhaenger ist Farbe amethyst. (Bitte verzeit die schlechte Aufnahmequalitaet, aber ich finde tanzanite Kristalle notorisch schlecht zo fotografieren. :o( )

Starting Point: "Frosty Windows" / Ausgangspunkt: "Frosty Windows"

As already mentioned in the title of the post, this set is based on the "Frosty Windows Bracelet" by Evelina Palmontova, featured in the December 2014/January 2015 edition of Beadwork. I liked the components as earrings and made three extras to put into a necklace, using 4 mm bicones instead of 3 mm fire-polish. It seemed a bit "flat" to me, so I added an additional round with bugles on the back, to "lift" the components.  Beaded diamond chain and a gold-plated S-hook clasp complete the necklace.

Wie schon im Titel erwaehnt, ist dieses Set auf dem "Frosty Windows Bracelet" von Evelina Palmontova,  Beadwork December 2014/Januar 2015, basiert. Mir haben die Einzelteile sehr gut als Ohrringe gefallen. Habe dann noch drei extra Komponenten fuer die Halskette gefaeldelt, aber mit 4 mm Kristalldoppelkegeln anstatt der 3 mm Glasschliffperlen. Da mir diese Komponenten fuer eine Kette zu "flach" waren, habe ich noch eine Runde mit Stiftperlen an der Unterseite hinzugefuegt. Dies gab den Komponenten mehr "Substanz". Eine Kette in Diamantstich sowie eine goldplattierte  Schliesse vervollstaendigen die Halskette.

"Chevrons" Set

Playing around with RAW, I created this colourful yet somewhat "light" set. Materials used: 15-003 Miyuki silver-lined gold, 15/0 Matsuno square hole silver-lined crystal AB, 4 mm Swarovski bicones (emerald, cobalt, siam & AB clear), 3 mm Swarovski bicones (emerald, sapphire, light siam & AB clear), gold-plated ear-posts and magnetic clasp.

Habe mit RAW "gespielt", und dabei ist dieses zartere, "bunte" Set entstanden. Verwendete Materialien: 15-003 Miyuki gold silber eingezogen, 15/0 Matsuno "square hole"  silber eingezogen kristall bedampft, 4 mm Swarovski Doppelkegel (emerald, cobalt, siam & AB clear), 3 mm Swarovski Doppelkegel (emerald, sapphire, light siam & AB clear), gold-plattiere Ohrstecker und magnetische Schliesse.

Upcycling: Semi-precious Stones / Halbedelsteine

 

When an old, short necklace with semi-precious stones found a home with me, it looked rather sad. It was strung onto green acrylic cord and the stones were separated by badly tarnished, small brass rounds. As the stones were of good quality and an interesting variety, I decided to give them "a new lease on life". Using gold eye-pins, I laboriously transformed the stones into chain segments, adding some stones from my stash, to add length to the chain and make it more fashionable. To provide continuity, I interspersed the stones with links of 4 mm Amber rounds. Total length of necklace = 112 cm.

Unlaengst fand eine Halbedelsteinkette ihr neues Zuhause mit mir, da die Eigentuemerin keinen Gebrauch fuer sie hatte. Die kurze Kette sah leider traurig aus. Die Steine waren auf gruener Acrylkord gefaedelt mit stark oxidierten Messingperlen zwischen den Steinen. Da die Halbedelsteine von guter Qualitaet waren, habe ich beschlossen, ihnen "neues Leben" als Stiftelkette zu geben. Mit Goldkettelstiften habe ich die Steine, zu welchen ich noch weitere Halbedelsteine aus meiner Kramlade gefuegt habe,  in Kettenlinks umgewandelt. Als "Spacers" habe ich "Links" von 4 mm Bernstein-Rundperlen verwendet. Die Kette ist nun 112 cm lang.  

Green Allure

Last week I discovered three aventurine cabochons in my stash and decided to bezel them. Then I combined them with 10 mm aventuringe rounds, 6 mm jade rounds and the lovely matching bricks, which I got from Uli (thanks again, dear Uli!). Add to this some 15/0 colour African Sunset, 8/0 in dark bronze and DB1002 (metallic gold iris) - and "voila" - Green Allure.

Letzte Woche entdeckte ich drei Aventurin -Quarz Cabochons in meinem Halbedelstein-Vorrat, und habe beschlossen sie zu umperlen. Diese kombinierte ich mit 10 mm Aventurin-Quarz und 6 mm Jade Rundperlen und den wunderschoen passenden "bricks", welche Uli mir vor einiger Zeit schickte (nochmals herzlichen Dank liebe Uli!). Dazu noch einige 15/0 in African Sunset, 8/0 in dunkelbronze und DB1002 (metallic gold iris) - und "voila" - Green Allure.

Here is the result of my latest "intuitive beading" - session. First I chose the beads I wanted to incorporate (black spikes, onyx rounds, silver pinch beads, Delicas in galvanized silver and 15/0  nickel plated). Then, starting with a black spike, I let the beads "lead the way". If the experiment was successful - you'll be the judge.

Hier ist das Resultat meines "intuitives Perlen" Experiments. Erstmal habe ich die Perlen, welche ich verarbeiten wollte, gewaehlt (Spikes in schwarz, Onyx Rundperlen, silber Pinch Beads, Delicas in galvanisiertem silber, und 15/0 nickel plattiert). Dann, beginnend mit dem schwarzem Spike, habe ich mir von den Perlen den Weg weisen lassen. Ob das Experiment ein Erfolg war, muesst ihr entscheiden.

Two quick projects which caught my eyes when paging through the October 2014 Bead& Button magazine: 

1. "Celtic Knot earrings" by Susan Harle: I only made one earring, embellished it with 15/0 24 kt gold plated, and used it as a pendant. The chain is a simple Spiral Rope with bead stations. The bead stations as well as the earrings consist of gold plated sterling silver bead caps, 2 mm gold fill metal rounds and dichroic beads.

2. "Wrapped in crystals pendant" by Gianna Zimmerman: Made in white, black and shades of grey, I attached a Swarovski silver shade crystal drop at the bottom to give the rather small pendant some more weight. The pendant is attached to a silver wire-knitted cord.

 

Zwei schnell geperlte Projekte, welche mir beim Durchblaettern der Oktober 2014 Bead&Button gefallen haben:

1. "Celtic Knot earrings" von Susan Harle: Ich habe nur einen Ohrring als Anhaenger geperlt und ihn mit 15/0 in 24 kt gold plattiert verziert.  Die Halskette ist eine Einfache Spiralkette mit Spacern. Die Spacer, wie auch die Ohrringe, bestehen aus gold plattierten Sterlingsilber bead caps, 2 mm gold-fill Metallperlen und dichroischen Glassperlen.

2. "Wrapped in crystals pendant" von Gianna Zimmerman: Gefertigt in Weiss, Schwarz und Grautoenen. Habe noch einen Sarovski-Kristalltropfen (crystal silver shade) hinzugefuegt, um dem Anhaenger mehr Gewicht zu geben. Der Anhaenger baumelt von einer silbernen, drahtgestrickten Kordel.

Today I became aware of the fact, that I have neglected my blog for more than 3 months! My only excuse being, that my life has become very hectic and that I was only able to bead two items - which I am showing here today - during this time: 1.) Spike Ring from an old beading magazine and 2.) Secret Tower Ornament by Paula Adams (to go to her website to look at / purchase her beautiful patterns, please click here).  Unfortunately I do not foresee any change in my busy schedule until mid-October, but will then again try to regularly post on my blog and diligently comment on your blogs. Where are the 48 hour days when you need them? ;o)

Liebe Perlenfreunde,

Heute wurde es mir schlagartig bewusst, dass es nun schon ueber 3 Monate her ist seit meinem letzten Blogeintrag! Zu meiner Entschuldigung kann ich nur sagen, dass in letzter Zeit mein Leben sehr hektisch geworden ist und ich in dieser langen Zeit nur zwei Projekte perlen konnte: 1) Spike-Ring aus einer alten Perlenzeitschrift, und 1/) Paula Adams's Secret Tower Ornament (um ihre tollen Ornamente anzusehen/Anleitungen zu kaufen, bitte hier klicken). Leider sehe ich keine Aenderung in meinem hektischen Leben bevor Mitte Oktober, werde dann aber wieder versuchen regelmaessig zu bloggen und Kommentare zu euren Schmuckstuecken zu liefern. Wo sind die 48-Stunden-Tage wenn man sie braucht? ;o)

Autumn Memories Set

Having found a variety of 11/0 Toho (sharp) triangles in my bead stash, I wanted to combine them into pieces of jewellery, using one of my favourite beading stitches - Ndebele Stitch (Herringbone Stitch). The result, beaded mostly in Autumn colours, is shown here. A flat Herringbone Bracelet with diagonal stripes, and a twisted Herringbone Rope necklace with a crystal centerpiece.  Materials used: 11/0 Toho Triangles - 557F galvanized gold starlight / 221 Bronze / 551F galvanized matte rose gold / 502 higher metallic dark plum iris / 706 matte iris teal / 82 metallic nebula / 702 matte dark copper / 83 metallic iris brown, Czech Charlottes in galvanized copper, Swarovski crystal bicones 6 mm (copper & crystal phoenix) & 4 mm (mocha), copper sliding clasp and copper magnetic clasp.

Wenn ich eine Anzahl verschiedener 11/0 Toho (sharp) triangles in meinem Perlenvorrat entdeckte, wollte ich sie unbedingt in Schmuckstuecken kombinieren. Ich habe mich fuer Ndebele (Herringbone) Stich entschieden, und hier sind die Resultate. Ein Armband mit diagonalen Streifen  und eine Kette mit Kristall-Blickfang. Plaited Peanuts Necklace

Since I obtained a few peanut beads lately, I wanted to try them out. Here are the results:

1. "Plaited Peanuts Necklace" by Cynthia Newcomer Daniel" , made with the following colours: gunmetal, galvanized dark raspberry and galvanized bronze.

2. "Heart-to-heart Bracelet" by Janet Palumbo, made from black AB peanut beads, Miyuki 15/0 higher metallic pandora, 3 mm & 4 mm Czech glass pearls cream, and 6 mm Czech fire-polished rounds in colour oilslick.

Da ich unlaengst einige Farfalle in die Haende bekommen habe,  musste ich diese natuerlich sofort verarbeiten. Hier sind die Ergebnisse:

1. "Plaited Peanuts Necklace" von Cynthia Newcomer Daniel" , geperlt mit den folgenden Farben: gunmetal, galvanized dark raspberry and galvanized bronze.

Cloisonne Set

In this bespoke jewellery set, I combined a beautiful hand-made set of cloisonne diamond shapes with good old spiral rope. Echoing some of the colours in the cloisonne, I incorporated 98 crystal bicones (3 mm) in the spiral rope parts. To break the rope up visually, some bead-stations using drops, rondelles and fire-polished rounds were added. Materials used: Preciosa "white heart" beads colour aqua in sized 8/0 and 11/0, Miyuki 15/0 silver-lined gold, rhinestone rondelles, 8 mm amethyst fire-polished rounds, aqua fire-polished drop beads, 3 mm crystal bicones (Swarovski and Preciosa) in colours aqua, peridot and amethyst. All findings are 18kt gold-filled.

In diesem "Set auf Bestellung" habe ich hand-gefertigte Cloisonne Komponente mit altbewaehrtem Spiralstich verbunden. In den "Spiralboegen" wurden 98 Kristalldoppelkegel (3 mm) verarbeitet. Um die Kette visuell ein wenig interessanter zu gestalten, habe ich "bead stations" von Tropfen, Rondellen und Rundperlen eingesetzt. Verwendete Materialien: Preciosa "white heart" Perlen Farbe aqua in 8/0 und 11/0, Miyuki 15/0 gold silber-eingezogen, rhinestone rondelles, 8 mm amethyst Glasschliffperlen, aqua Glasschlifftropfen, 3 mm Kristalldoppelkegel (Swarovski und Preciosa) in den Farben aqua, peridot und amethyst. Schliesse, Ohrstecker, Aufhaenger sind 18kt goldplattiert.

This time I want to show you something strung for a change. :o) For this rather dainty necklace I worked with the following materials: 6 mm lapis lazuli rounds, a lapis lazuli heart pendant, fresh water pearls, small 18kt gold-fill metal rounds, bail and magnetic clasp. Necklace length: 48 cm

Dieses Mal moechte ich euch zur Abwechslung gerne etwas Aufgereihtes zeigen. :o) Fuer diese eher zarte Kette habe ich die folgenden Materialien verarbeitet: 6 mm runde Lapislazuli , Lapislazuli Herzanhaenger, Suesswasserperlen, und 18kt goldplattierte Metallrundperlen, Aufhaenger und Magnetschliesse. Halskettenlaenge: 48 cm

Vor meiner Blogpause, vor fast 4 Monaten - Kinder, wie die Zeit vergeht! - habe ich angekuendigt, dass ich Uli Jez's Plastische Peyote Halskette unbedingt perlen moechte. Endlich habe ich die Zeit und Energie gefunden um die Kette und dazupassende Ohrringe zu faedeln. Materials used: DB048 (s/l grey), 6/0 and 15/0 galvanized silver, AB clear 4 mm crystal rondelles, Czech glass pearls 6 mm (silver) & 8 mm (storm), Sterling silver clasp with extension chain, silver-plated ear hooks.

Verwendete Materialien: DB048 (grau silbereingezogen), kristall AB 4 mm Rondelle, Glaswachsperlen 6 mm (slber) & 8 mm (sturmgrau), sterlingsilber Schliesse mit Verlaengerungskette, silber plattierte Ohrhaken.

Cocktail Rings / Cocktail Ringe

Super Duos are hereabouts difficult to come by and also very expensive. A few weeks ago I treated myself to a few 10 g tubes of Super Duos, realizing too late that 10 g are not really enough to create anything of note. Well, there is always the www. After some looking around I stumbled over a blog tutorial of a cocktail ring, which uses two colours of Super Duos and, being a ring, not too many of each either. Super Duos sind nicht nur schwer zu bekommen wo ich wohne, aber sind dann ueberdies noch schweineteuer. Vor ein paar Wochen habe ich mir ein paar 10 g Tuben zum Geschenk gemacht, ohne daran zu denken, dass 10 g natuerlich viel zu wenig sind fuer ein Armband oder gar eine Halskette. Was soll ich nur aus diesen wenigen Super Duos machen? Das www hatte die Antwort.
